GovHack is an event where a number of government departments release data sets. Hackers are invited to work over a weekend (many stay up until the early hours of the morning) to develop new applications using these datasets. On 1-3 June a GovHack was held with 140 hackers forming 45 teams working across two locations to develop a number of exciting applications.
The Best of GovHack will showcase some of the prize winners from this event. Come along to see presentations from a number of winning teams.
Code Cadets, a team from Canberra Grammar School has done and iPad application which provides a visual representation of the past 100 years of rainfall and temperature data from the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.
The History in Action team developed a website which gives Canberrans and visitors their own personalised bus tour exploring Canberra’s rich history.
The Capitalists team created the Ok Capital application which brings the individuals who have just lost their job together with ‘the city they were destined to live in’.
Matrix Mania team’s project 3D Data on a Mesh attempted to summarize 55,845 data observations from the Bureau of Meteorology in a single picture.
2 Guys 1 App team created the Open Budget, a two-fold project: a new open source data series for government expenditure by department and an online visualisation tool.
NullReference created Best API Development for Government Data Sets in the Open Government Category.
